ICT Applied Skills 1.2
Today's computers have the ability to record audio much the same way they record the written word through typing. Using audio in the classroom is an emerging technology that has great potential to enhance student learning, especially those who are "auditorily" oriented. iPods equipped with microphones will be demonstrated. The devices can be used to help students express ideas, record their oral reading development, and capture audio for use in a multitude of projects. Programs such as GarageBand* and Audacity are free and can become powerful, yet easy-to-use, tools for recording students' voices.
Teachers will learn:
• how to use iPods with microphones, as well as other audio inputs, to capture high quality audio.
• how to use Garageband to take a variety of audio sources and mix them to create a finished product.
• how to produce a simple "radio show" called a PodCast.
• how to use these skills in their classroom with their students
• how using digital audio projects can energize and encourage students to learn
*Garageband ships free of charge with every new Apple Macintosh computer.
This workshop is three hrs long and will take place as two, 1.5 hr classes.
